Students get hands-on experience in traffic management

As many as 50 students from six town-based schools gained practical insight into traffic management as part of a day-long training camp conducted by the traffic wing of the town police here on Wednesday.

The camp began on an enlightened note with a theoretical session held at the traffic police station in the morning, followed by a practical session at four different spots on the main thoroughfares in the town. Split into four teams, the students, accompanied by the traffic police, regulated traffic, enforced traffic rules by levying fines on offenders and discharged traffic duties under the supervision of Traffic Inspector P. Naresh Reddy. The main aim of the traffic awareness camp is to acquaint schoolchildren with traffic rules, road safety norms, and a wide spectrum of subjects related to traffic management, says Mr. Naresh Reddy. The schoolchildren will be motivated to spread awareness among their schoolmates and their neighbours to prevent road accidents, save precious human lives and ensure better traffic management, he emphasises. It is an enriching experience for all of us, notes Deekshita, a class X student of a town-based school.

The camp provided us a rare opportunity to acquaint ourselves with traffic regulations, prescribed fines for various traffic offences, road safety norms and other aspects of traffic management, she asserts.
